The claimant stated that they tripped and fell while exiting an elevator and were seeking damages. Our client did not have records extending back to the alleged incident, dating back over two years, placing them in a poor position to defend themselves against the lawsuit.
Fortunately, RiA had been retained to undertake an annual inspection at this site, resulting in a report dated within a few weeks of the alleged incident. The report indicated that the elevator had been fully inspected, was found to be operating correctly in regard to leveling, and all maintenance logs were up to date. When the claim was countered with this information, the plaintiff settled for a small nuisance fee, saving our client a major payout.
